MCC visit Sonning For the fifth occasion Sonning Cricket Club are delighted to host the MCC in its biennial fixture. The match will commence at 11.30am on 3rd July. Again we are playing for the David G Phillips Memorial Trophy. Among his many achievements with the Club David first brought the fixture to Sonning in 2011, and currently we stand at two victories apiece. Weather permitting we hope for another competitive game, and hope for extra support from the villagers who are always most welcome when the Club is open
Sonning Cricket Club is located in the picturesque village of Sonning on Thames, just to the east of Reading, in Berkshire.
We are a very successful and popular village cricket club with c60 adult playing members c50 non-playing and a thriving junior section of c120 children. The club pavilion has a fully licensed bar which will be open most evenings throughout the coming season. Parents/family members and locals are most welcome. In the 2019 season we will field 3 Saturday teams playing in the Thames Valley League (TVL) and 2 Sunday teams playing friendlies against clubs scattered across Berks, South Bucks, South Oxon and Surrey. All fixtures will be published on the website very soon. The Saturday 1st team will be playing in Division 4 of the TVL, the 2's in Division 6 and the 3's in Division 9. Saturday cricket is competitive and played to win, but not at all costs. Playing within the spirit of the game is embedded within the club's culture. This is especially so in the 3rd team which is used as the gateway for juniors, when ready, to start playing adult competitive cricket. This is almost always a very positive experience for them, the club is very focused on developing our youth. Saturday fixtures commence mid May, Sunday fixtures run from late April to mid September. With 5 teams playing each weekend we are able to accommodate players of all standards. The 1st and 2nd teams play at our home ground with its traditional cricket pavilion and bar at King George Playing Fields on Pound Lane. Our 3rd team play home fixtures at Blue Coat School. Both locations have excellent playing surfaces. NETS - COMMENCE MARCH 5th Weekly indoor nets commence next Tuesday at Blue Coat School, these sessions are running from 6pm to 7.45pm for 8 weeks, except for March 19th when unfortunately the school is not free for us. Each sessions is at a cost of £5 per adult and £2.50 for a junior member. The first outdoor net session (subject to the weather) will start on Thursday 7th of May at Pound Lane 6.30p.m. Thursday evening is also the club's midweek "clubnight" so if you are not up to the physical exertion of nets come along and limber up over a beer! For further information on senior cricket, please contact Dan Anderson, club secretary, on 07909 442814 or email bcfcdan@hotmail.com
As mentioned above our junior membership with 120 boys and girls continues to go from strength to strength following their inaugural season in 2008. In 2012 the club was awarded ECB Clubmark status. In 2019 we will be entering teams into the Berkshire Youth League at age levels U9's, U11's, U13's and U15's as well as non-competitive cricket sessions for the U7's. Training is held for all age groups on a weekly basis at our home ground King George's Field and at Reading Blue Coat School. For further information on junior cricket at Sonning, please visit our juniors page.
We are a very friendly and sociable club run by volunteers, new players who wish to get involved and support a traditional cricket club are always welcome.
