Being half term, the Sonning Stingers took advantage of hall availability and had a 2-hour session. We had 14 attend – great numbers considering the holidays, and it was straight into a catching drill run by Alexander. We even got Verity fine tuning her skills!
With the whole hall to utilise, we made the most of the space to practice some fielding skills – takes a bit of getting used to but we were soon aiming at the stumps, catching and throwing with accuracy. This led nicely onto a game of 7 a side.
What was evident from the game was people are starting to think as a team and also tactically! This is amazing progression given the infancy of our group. We saw wickets tumbling through bowling, being caught, and a number of 4s and the odd 6 as the ball clattered into the back wall.
Moving forward, it is clear that we have enough committed players to confidently enter 1, maybe 2 softball cricket teams into the local league. We have a small tournament planned – we will be hosting a few clubs at the same time, on 24th May and we will be looking to commit to regular training sessions in the near future to prepare for the season.
Please get in touch if you would like to come along and try this form of Cricket – we can guarantee you a fun and lively hour or 2, with a group made up of varying abilities and ages – just give it a try! Email [email protected] or WhatsApp 07831238784
We would like to take this opportunity of thanking our Community Coach – Verity Johnson, who has offered much guidance and really gone the extra mile to help us get up and running! Thank you, Verity, you’re a star!
