Match Report

Although defending champions Cavaliers did manage to send out 11 players against Sonning, they were no match for the team most likely to take the top flight crown back off them this season.

And after skittling Cavaliers out for a meagre 53, Sonning powered to a nine-wicket triumph at 56-1.

Phil Swann bowled with great guile to emerge with 4-29 while paceman Ghulam Abbas bagged 5-22 as only Cavaliers skipper Lenny Dabreo put up any resistance as he dug in to finish unbeaten on 24.

But Dabreo said: "It wasn't especially difficult to bat out there, all you needed was to show a bit of application and play properly but instead we just flashed at things we shouldn't have been going for and gave our wickets away.

"We need to re-group and start playing well again because we don't want to win the title one year and get relegated the next."

But Sonning showed no mercy and didn't waste any time in wrapping up the game as Oranzaid Nazir hit 29 not out while Richard Anderson (9 no) got a rare chance to bat after being promoted up the order.

Sonning skipper Gary Phillips said: "Cavaliers weren't very strong, although we took early wickets and put them under pressure right from the start."
