Sonning 3rds came back to winning ways with an excellent victory at Yateley which moved us back to the top of the league table. Naqash and Aamir returned after their one week break, and Jamie and Freddie also came in which made the team very strong.
Sonning won the toss and on a misty and gloomy day and decided to bowl first on damp and green wicket. Captain Waqas shared the new ball with the James Travers, and both bowled tight spells. Jamie was unlucky as outside edges kept missing but he kept his line and length and was economical in his spell conceding only 6 runs his five overs. Waqas started erratically but soon got into his rhythm and was rewarded with couple of early wickets. He clean bowled the opener and got LBW the next batsmen. After 15 overs the opposition were on 26/2.
Wildthing then tied up one end with five overs for just 23 runs while Ahsan probed away outside off stump and conceding only 14 in his spell. The opposition seemed to be going nowhere at 63-2 after 26 overs.
Sonning continued to look for wickets and Aamir and Naqash were introduced to tempt them into big shots, and it paid off as Aamir bowled their opener with a fast cutter who was batting sensibly till then and took another wicket soon afterwards. He bowled brilliantly and Yateley couldn't handle his change of pace. On another day he could've taken 4/5 wickets but few drop catches also went down on his bowling. Naqash on other side also joined the party and cleaned bowled two batsmen in quick time with his off spin. Yateley had reached 104/6 after 37 overs. Waqas introduced himself and Freddie (playing his first game of the season) from the other end. Freddie bowled well getting two quick wickets, one caught behind with Nick taking a fine catch and one caught at square leg boundary with Naqash taking well judged catch. From the other end Waqas bowled well picking up another wicket after a fine juggling catch by Ahsan at mid off and another one soon after getting their last wicket caught on the point by Freddie. Yateley had last their last 4 wickets in quick time and Sonning wrapped up the innings inside 43rd over with the opposition on 134.
After the tea Naqash and Ali opened the batting as usual. With the low score target and long batting line up we were confident of securing the victory. Naqash hit a couple of lusty blows in the first over, making his intention clear to finish the match quickly. Ali was given LBW in the first over. Andy Fitton came at no 3. With Naqash playing his usual aggressive style hitting boundaries all sides it needed few overs of solid batting from another end. Andy played some lovely shots on the leg side and soon Sooning had halved the target with the 3rd wicket partnership reaching 60 inside 10 overs.
Naqash was caught at point after making an aggressive 49. This brought Bhuvan to the crease and he continued where Naqash left off. He played some aggressive and lovely strokes and soon reached 30 in no time. With the target in sight Sonning lost couple of quick wicket with Bhuvan and Freddie both getting out to full balls. Andy soon hit the win runs and Sonning had chase the small target of 134 inside 24 overs. Andy remained 37 not out and Nick on 1 not out.
An excellent performance from the bowlers who all bowled well. Only couple of catches went down but generally fielding was really good and no easy runs were given in the field. A performance which put us on the top the table. Well done everybody!!!
