Sonning was inserted after losing the toss and restricted to 184 all out in 45 overs. A total that would prove quite challenging.
Harvey Grout and Liam Smith opened the bowling. Liam bowled well and I am encouraged that Liam is improving fast and will become much better by the end of the season.
Harvey Grout worked very hard with great passion and determination and was incredibly miserly exerting much pressure from one end. Harvey’s 16.5-5-23-4 contained two wickets in last over of Fleet’s innings.
We got off to a flier when we batted with Kevan Smith wanting to get it all over and done with in the first twenty. He made a good 44 with Anthony Foley doggedly supporting and when out was filled with disappointment. Snake’s contribution to the opening partnership was invaluable.
The key partnership was between Ted Baker and Harvey Grout yielding 58 runs. This was a critical partnership as Skippers fear that if either got out it would have potentially exposed us. Ted was focused and I congratulate Ted on his resilience and determination.
Harvey batted with ease and power to get to 34 not out and with his controlled bowling is a deserving Man of the Match.
Retief did take a fantastic catch and the rest of the team did well. We are still third in the league 22 points off the top and with Purley fast gaining ground only 2 points behind Sonning.
It might well be easy to forget Steve Hill behind the stumps but Hilly is doing a fantastic job saving his team many extras. Well done Hilly.
We need to work hard, as we have been doing, against Yateley at home next week to keep up the challenge for the title.
