Match Report
On a hot and humid day, Sonning lost the toss and were put in to bat. Sonning got off to a very good start, with Chris Coreless, playing his second match of the season, particularly severe on anything on his pads and on other side Nick Ray was playing steadily. Chris and Nick started very briskly on a very good batting wicket and found the boundaries with ease. Chris provided the necessary early propulsion and the speed of scoring was never really an issue throughout the innings. Chris missed a straight delivery and was bowled on 28 and the opener partnership had reached 54 runs in under 10 overs. The best opening partnership of the season so far. The wicket brought Kiran Alluri (20) and he kept the scoreboard ticking over with some aggressive stroke play. Nick on other side was given a reprieve early on and he duly make them pay with a handy 24. After the fall of Nick’s wicket captain Waqas came to the crease and started in his usual aggressive style scoring a quick 24 before holding out in the deep.
In between all this KhalilUr Rehman was unlucky to be given out on 0 when he missed a wide ball but the umpire gave him caught behind. He slowly made his way to pavilion still shaking his head. The quick wickets brought Max Coreless and Srinivas Vijayarao and they both started their briskly. Max in particular was very sever on anything short and he made a quick fire 29 before getting out to a full delivery. The score had reached 181 in 34 overs. In came Aamir Tahir and Jegan Srinisivan and they continued where the earlier partnership had left off. Captain conveyed the messaged to the middle to up the rate as an early declaration was on the card. Aamir made a quick fire 25 hitting some powerful stroke and one huge six over mid-on. Jegan also contributed with 17 runs before getting run out. In order to the up the rate Sonning lost last 3 wickets in quick time and were bowled out for 240 in 42 overs.
After the tea, captain started with spin and asked Srinivas and Aamir Tahir to open the bowling. He was rewarded straight away as Srinivas took the wicket in his very first over. Aamir also joined the party by getting an early wicket and opposition were 2 wickets down in no time. In chance of away victory was gone and now it was all about getting 10 wickets. Captain brought himself on after 6 overs in search of quick wickets and didn’t took long to make his mark on the game, taking the first wicket in his first over and taking another wicket. He finish his spell with two wicket from 5 overs. The opposition were 15/4 inside 16 overs. Amer Khan replaced Amir and bowled a tidy spell but was unlucky not to take any wickets. But he kept the pressure on the batsmen from his end. Jegan started from the top end and he bowled an excellent spell. He bowled a very tight and probing spell. It was one of those days when everything he touched turn into gold as he kept taking wickets with unplayable balls. He finished with 4-1-6-5 and Sonning had bowled the opposition inside 22 overs for only 72 runs.
An excellent batting and bowling performance from everybody. Fielding was excellent as ever with Max, Jamie and Khalil making important interceptions in the field. A man of the match performance from Jegan and well deserved after being out for a year with a horrible injury.
A good team effort and excellent win.
