For some reason Cameron Gannon was awarded the man of the match for a performance which included taking 7 for 22, including 4 wickets in 4 balls, and then scoring 87 not out! This was a truly remarkable performance, with Gannon getting his almost unplayable Yorker spot on and hitting the stumps with great regularity.
Sonning didn’t have it all their own way when Odiham batted, as after a couple of early wickets, both Voisey and Turner batted well to pass the 50 mark. It was only when Gannon returned for his second spell that wickets fell rapidly, and they were eventually dismissed for 175 with only 1 ball left in the innings.
When Sonning batted, class bats Boyton and Richards were both out cheaply, but skipper Philips batted well for 30 and after he fell, the two extremes of Australian sport came to the fore. 94 year old Pete Whitmore combined with 19 year old Gannon to see Sonning home in the 34th over with Whitmore finishing on 20 and Gannon as already mentioned on a very well made 87.
A very convincing win for Sonning with an amazing personal performance from Gannon. The rest of the team must make sure they continue to perform to the best of their ability and not rely on Cameron to perform like this every week.
