Sonning 3rd good form continued this week with another solid performance with both bowl and bat. Sonning elected to bat first after having won the toss. The wicket looked little bit under prepared, but played well throughout the game.
Naqash Tahir and Alex Ray – playing his first game of the season - opened the innings. Alex started the inngs briskly, finding boundaries at will. On other hand Naqash(22) started very watchfully and cautiously. After 10 overs the score had reached 58 and most importantly without the loss of any wicket. The opening partnership was on 88 when Naqash was adjudged LBW by the umpire – as ever he thought it was going down. Alex soon got to his deserved 50 and started to get tired. He departed for brilliant 75 and Soon captain Waqas Tahir(6) followed him to the pavilion. Sonning lost two quick wickets on the score of 117 after 20 overs. The wickets brought Khalilur Rehman and Sagar Dave to the crease. They both started watchfully with Khalil being the aggressor in the partnership. Sonning soon lost Khalil(15) to injury when he tried to take a quick single. Unfortunately, he had to retire to the pavilion.
The 5th wicket partnership of Nick Ray and Sagar began very slowly as both were trying to steady the inngs. Their first 7 overs together only brought about 15 runs. Captain soon gave the license to both batsmen to have a go at the opposition. With wickets in hand the platform was set for a big score. Sagar specially took the liking to the bowling and started hitting the bowlers to all corners. At one point he hit 5 consecutive 4s to bring his 50. Nick on other also started to play aggressively and hit one big six over long on.
Sonning declared their inngs on 262/4 after 40 overs. 5th wicket partnership had reached 108* of just 14 overs with Sagar ending with 75 with strike rate of 182 and Nick ended with 40*.
After tea, Naqash Tahir and Aamir Tahir opened the bowling without troubling the batsmen too much with the old ball. Captain decided to take the new ball and was rewarded with a wicket by Vivek Vasist – who bowled a very good and probing spell without much luck. Young Amer also bowled a good new spell. Aamir Tahir also bowling an excellent spell without much reward. Sonning were desperate for wickets and soon captain brought himself and Syed Mazhar on. Captain Waqas got couple of quick wickets with Syed also chipping in with one wicket.
With 10 overs remaining and still 6 wickets to get. Alex Ray was given the ball and he quickly broke their 6th wicket partnership. Amir, Alex and Waqas all took late wickets in the last few overs but it was too late as the last pair held out to a draw.
Overall it was good performance, With Alex and Sagar scoring a brilliant 70 and 75 respectively and Nick scoring 40. This was not one of the best fielding performances from us and we will need improve fielding going forward.
