Match Report

Sonning won the toss and batted first on a flat track. K.Smith (35) and C.Priestley (45) put on 74 for the first wicket but unfortunately, whilst doing his impression of Usain Bolt in running between the wickets, Beefy managed to tweak a hamstring. Grouty then, much to his dismay, was given out lbw by Jacko . With the innings at the crucial point, J.Dance (52) and S.Brooks (63 not out) put together an excellent 120 run partnership, full of great shots and very good running between the wickets (unusual for Brooksy) to make the final total 233 for 5.

The Slough reply was full of incident. Roberts and Anners opened the bowling with some contrast. Anners his usual miserly self whilst Robbo bowled a mixture of long hops and full bungers. Then there were the two run outs from Grouty which resulted in an international incident on the boundary with a number of the Slough players having a free for all before the police arrived. Then a big lbw shout was turned down for Grouty by one of the Slough players, luckily the police had gone by then! Nick Ashton bowled with great control and was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 23, including a stunning slip catch at slip by Brooksy. Jacko and Dancey both bowled well with no reward and the innings ended frustratingly at 155 for 9.
