The opposition skipper's decision to bowl was music to the ears of the returning tourists as this meant an extra couple of hours of rest, but it wasn't long before minor panic set in as both openers were back in the pavilion quicker than you can spend £20 in the Fantasy Lounge, Queen Mary Street, Cardiff. Richard Anderson settled the ship and when Dominic Martyn entered the fray the run rate suddenly rocketed as he contributed a quick fire 43. With four wickets down there was still a need to get plenty more runs on the board and Phil Collier did not disappoint with a fine 73 before he was added to the run out victims of David Rintoul. Despite needing a couple of minutes recovery time with an all run five to get off the mark, Rentboy passed 50 despite a 'very close' appeal for a stumping and with Matt Hill contributing a fine 33 not out at the other end, Sonning 2s finished on a very respectable 276 for 7 off 52 overs.
Special mention to Matt for a career best score for the 2s, to the bouncer who refused him entry to the night club to which Matt responded with a mighty fine chunder at his feet and to his mum Mags for Matt's hereditary sporting ability.
The hosts were quickly in trouble as the top three all failed to make double figures but Senniappan, who had earlier wiped out Sonning 2s opening four batsmen, played well for a hard hitting 80 and with 'big' Dan Barclay contributing 48 at the other end, the game seemed to be heading for a draw with the target beyond reach and wickets hard to come by despite several 'very close' appeals being turned down by the Purley umpires. However both fell and despite having several overs at the two tail enders Sonning 2s failed to get any further breakthroughs and the game finished with Purley 2s on 217 for 7.
Yet another draw for Sonning 2s highlighting the need for a strike bowler and 13 points that means we fall two places in the league to sixth.
