Sonning continued their 100% league record this season with a comfortable win against Datchet 2nds in a match lasting less than 30 overs. Skipper Gary Philips inserted Datchet on greenish wicket due to the worry of early movement. This was a decision which in hindsight may have backfired .
Datchet were simply unable to cope with the blistering pace of Aussie Ace Cameron Gannon, who bowled one of the finest spells ever witnessed at Pound lane. He clean bowled the first seven batsmen in a spell of 7 wickets from 7 overs for 7 runs, 6 of which were edges through the slips! Included in here were 4 wickets in 4 balls and 5 wickets in 6! Truly amazing bowling, although it has to be said that the batsmen did not exactly look like they fancied it when coming to the wicket! Abbas, Troughton and Parr all weighed in with a wicket, Parr spoiling the score book by getting the last wicket LBW, the first which was not bowled.
A quick turnaround saw no respite for Datchet as Mark Richards continued his return to form since getting contact lenses after realising he was blind! Chasing 60 he reached 50 not out with a 6 in the 10th over and the team could enjoy as much tea as they wanted!!
While everybody enjoys winning, unfortunately this game was such a mismatch that nobody could really derive much enjoyment and it left Sonning wondering what to do with themselves after finishing at 3.30!
